The first weekend in 2016 brought two dozen first responder professionals together for an intensive training in resiliency grounded in mindfulness. We formed up at a former Dude Ranch in Bend, Oregon that is currently running as a corporate training retreat and we couldn't have asked for a better venue. With snow falling throughout the weekend, temperatures moderately chilly and an occasional sun break, we trained in a beautiful second story space with windows on three sides. With 24 hours of mindfulness skills training in 2.5 days we led our warrior students into the edge of discomfort and opened up opportunities to experience the power of mindfulness.
This weekend affirmed the value of this immersion training as part of a broader strategy with layered training to build sustainable, locally resourced training models for communities. We move forward with similar trainings scheduled in California this spring, and Washington DC this fall.
